The Final Exam will be formatted in the following way:
100 points awarded for essay questions (you answer 4 out of 6) 

The Exam will cover the following:
Literary Characteristics and how they relate to the readings from class as well as how the readings can be interpreted through the critical literary theories.
 

Possible Essay Questions:

1.            The Metamorphosis is commonly discussed in terms of Marxist or Biographical Criticism.  Discuss this work in any one of the other critical stances.

2.            Compare and contrast the ending of The Metamorphosis and Don Quixote.  Make sure to use general examples to support yourself.

3.            How is, the character, Dante’s journey into The Inferno similar to Quixote’s journeys in Don Quixote?

4.            Discuss The Inferno or Don Quixote by the definitions of satire.

5.            Discuss Don Quixote as a breakthrough work in literature; make sure to include in what ways it has influenced other works that we have read.

6.            Discuss The Inferno in terms of either Archetypal or Biographical criticism.

7.            Explain Borges’ philosophy of diverging futures and realities, and relate it to his works we have read.

8.            Compare and contrast Rossetti’s and Dickinson’s poems in terms of S.O.P.A. analysis. (This is actually a form of formalist criticism.)

9.            Chekov and Dostoevsky (as well as Cervantes) bring up the theme of change.  How is change viewed in these Russian authors and what other commonalities can you find in their work?

10.        Discuss Chekov's development and use of characters with Dostoevsky's. (Formalist Criticism)
